Tides Turning

Both of them were taken hostage, but he had been searched clean. He found it strange that Yao Tang had something as vital as a mobile phone in her possession.

Did the Green Cloud Pavilion treat them differently? Why, though?

Vice-President Tang heard Yao Tang’s words, of course. He froze in shock, and he began to doubt himself.

Could they have really rescued Zhang Yi?

But how was that possible?

He had assigned two elites from the Green Cloud Pavilion to guard Zhang Yi, and he had also dispatched some of their finest warriors to secure the perimeter. More importantly, they kept their hostage at an extremely top-secret location.

There was no way they could have rescued him!

Who would go, anyway, when the most powerful forces of the Cabinet were all here?

Yao Tang must be bluffing!

She probably came up with this idea when Vice-President Tang’s calls would go through to his subordinates, in a bid to lower the morale of the rest of the Green Cloud Pavilion’s members.

“You’re lying,” Vice-President Tang harrumphed at Yao Tang, his face filled with disdain.

Did she really think he would fall for her trick so easily?

He was much too cunning for that!

Meanwhile, the bearded man was still trying to call his comrades. When they still didn’t pick up after a few more tries, Vice-President Tang felt a sense of foreboding.

Perhaps Yao Tang was telling the truth…

“You’ll see for yourself soon enough,” Yao Tang chuckled.

Beep!

At last, the bearded man’s call connected, and it was automatically switched to a video call. A muffled voice came from the other side.

Vice-President Tang snatched the phone from his subordinate’s hand.

In the next second, a beaten-up face appeared on the screen, its eyes almost swollen shut, its nose broken and bloody. Vice-President Tang recognized him as one of the elites assigned to Zhang Yi.

The man was squatting on the ground and whimpering. A long string of snot dangled from his nose.

When he saw Vice-President Tang, he wept and wailed until he was out of breath.

“What the hell happened?” Vice-President Tang demanded. “Hurry up and tell me!”

“Those people from the Cabinet,” the subordinate sniffed. “They’re a bunch of bullies! Not only did they take the hostage, but they also killed everyone. I’m the only one left here.”

The poor man wept again, feeling both fearful and relieved at the same time.

Although he was badly beaten up, he still considered himself lucky for being alive.

He and his companions had no shielding device with them, so they were easily suppressed by the Cabinet members.

Everything happened so quickly, and they were knocked out with just a few punches. By the time he woke up, he found himself lying among corpses. Everyone else was dead.

If it hadn’t been for the persistent ringing of his phone, he might still be in a coma.

“Vice-President Tang, what should we do now?”

The man asked in between sobs.

Vice-President Tang smashed the phone on the ground and whirled around to glare at Yao Tang. He looked like he wanted nothing more than to skin her alive.

Those people were his elite team! And she had killed them all.

The terrible look on his face seemed to invigorate Elder Chen. His spiritual energy rushed back to him in full, and he let out a loud, hearty laugh.

“Oh, how refreshing. That really quelled my anger.”

He tilted his head to the side and raised an eyebrow at Vice-President Tang. “Who’s calling the shots now?”

Since Zhang Yi was safe, he and Yao Tang could break free from this trap without fear of any consequences, and the other Cabinet members would be attacking the Green Cloud Pavilion from the outside.

The tides had indeed been turned.

It truly was a satisfying development.

“I didn’t expect your men to be so useless, Vice-President Tang. I knew it, you people really are nothing without your dirty tricks!”

Elder Chen laughed again. “Well? What other schemes have you prepared? Come on, show us. We’ll gladly take them all!”

No matter what devious plan the Green Cloud Pavilion concocted, the Cabinet would always be one step ahead of them.

Vice-President Tang glared at Yao Tang some more before deciding to control his subordinates and use them to shield his escape.

He slowly inched between his men and prepared to make a run for it.

In the end, the Cabinet Elders chose not to pursue him. They didn’t want to risk any more of their members when they had already rescued Zhang Yi.

Besides, Vice-President Tang was just a rat who scurried in the dark. He was powerless against them. There should be no harm in letting him go.
