Chapter 19  : You Deserve Someone Better

Before she even finished speaking, the atmosphere dampened immediately.

“It’s okay, Fanxing. Who has not loved a jerk in their youth? Remember how you comforted me when I broke up in university?”

“…”

Speechless, emotions flashed across Shen Fanxing’s eyes, causing a sigh from Xu Qingzhi. She whispered,

“Su Heng is just a passerby in your life. There is no need for you to dwell too much on him. Given your exceptional qualities, you definitely deserve someone better.”

She deserved someone better…

Her grip on the phone tightened, as a distant yet familiar face flashed through her mind.

Even though it was only momentary, her lips turned upwards.

It seemed that the anger had made her lose her sense of rationality, to the point where she could think of such seemingly unrelated things.

“Fanxing… are you alright?”

Shen Fanxing snapped out of her trance and replied,”… I’m fine. I just feel that… you’re right.”

On the other end of the call, Xu Qingzhi heaved a sigh of relief before saying, “Alright, rest well, I’m going to get busy soon…”

“Okay…”

Yet, just as she was about to hang up, Xu Qingzhi halted her.

“Wait, Fanxing!”

“Yes?”

“Then… will you continue working in Su Heng’s company?”

Shen Fanxing paused. That was a question she had not thought about.

“Well, it goes like this, the Research and Development Department is in severe lack of workers. If you don’t want to stay in Su Heng’s company, can you come over and give me a hand? I know that you still have the company left by your mum to take care of, but it’s really urgent here…”

Shen Fanxing thought silently before speaking in a soft tone,

“Since we have already broken up, there is no more reason for me to stay in his company. I’m used to being busy all these years. If you need me, I can take up the work anytime.”

“Ahh… darling, you’re indeed a huge help to me. If you need anything—bringing water, massaging or even marrying you, I will do anything as long as I can hire you…”

Xu Qingzhi was hardly that excited, which lifted Shen Fanxing’s spirits.

She gave a low laugh, “Don’t exaggerate…”

“Am I exaggerating? Nobody is as lucky as me in this world, okay? You must understand that you’re…”

“Okay, okay, calm down. Don’t you have work to do? Go do it.”

“Alright!”

Solving something of major importance lifted something off Xu Qingzhi’s shoulders. She muttered some words happily before hanging up.

After the end of the phone call, Shen Fanxing felt distracted. Just as she was about to stand up and stroll outside, her phone rang again.

Pausing slightly, she picked up her phone to see an unknown caller ID.

Even though she hesitated as she thought the call was from Su Heng’s Company’s customer, she picked up the call.

“Hello,” said Shen Fanxing in an automated business-like voice.

“…Hello… hello! Is this Fanxing?”

A particularly energetic voice sounded, though it was obvious that the other party was no longer in her youthful years.

Doubts flashed before Shen Fanxing’s eyes.

“I am. You’re…”

“I am Grandma, the woman you talked to under the Gardenia. I heard from Yu Song that you wanted to see me…”

There was an immediate transition on Shen Fanxing’s face, from a doubtful to a knowing look.

“Yes, Grandma. I promised to chat with you the other time. Took me long enough, sorry.”

“No worries. Your recovery is more important! If you have nothing on now, I’ll let Yu Song pick you up.”

Looking at the weather outside, she smiled and replied,

“Okay.”
